We offer the following information to help you decide whether you might want to join REx.
The idea behind REx is that all researchers can benefit from learning about each other's work. As a result, REx is designed to collect as much information about writing research studies as possible, including—and especially—information about studies that may not be widely known or for which reports and publicataions are not easily accessible. With your participation, REx will provide a rich and comprehensive profile of what research in "writing studies" is and is becoming.
Your contribution will become part of a peer-reviewed digital publication. After the collection deadline (May 1st, 2013), REx editors will review all entries for clarity and completeness of information, contacting researchers for further information as needed. Once the review process is complete, the edited entries will be included in the searchable REx database. REx editors will introduce the database with a scholarly essay that contextualizes contemporary writing research, offers an overview of database contents, and points to current and emerging research trends indicated by your studies.
From the first edition onward, REx will provide a historical snapshot of writing research, and it will offer a resource for planning future studies. For example, you might consult REx in order to:
The collection period is 18 months: from November 2011 through May 2013. This extended time frame is designed to encourage news about REx to spread among the writing research community so that researches across different local, national, and international sites can participate. This time frame also invites researchers to gather full information about their work and to enter multiple studies.
This first edition of REx seeks information about research studies begun in or after 2000. By focusing on twenty-first-century examples, the first edition of REx will represent a truly contemporary picture of writing research. To keep that picture up to date, this site will open again every five years, and subsequent editions will feature updates to the REx database. Future editions may also expand REx to include, for example, reports in languages other than English or reports on research conducted before 2000.
